Raising Kids the Green Way

Raising kids in a  green way can be a daunting task these days. Not only you need to keep in mind what they eat and drink, but also you should take into account all the materials that you use at home.

For example, if you are like most families, you are not aware of the amount of synthetic and potentially toxic materials that you expose your kids to on a daily basis. Here is a list of some of the most common household elements that are definitely not “green”:

  • detergent
  • soap
  • toothpaste
  • shampoo
  • food wrappers
  • plastic food containers
  • plastic cutlery
  • nappies
  • wipes
  • infant formula
  • plastic toys that contain BPA
  • plastic bottles that contain BPA
  • fluoridated water

The list goes on and on. Unless you are extremely aware and tuned in the alternative media to get the “other” side of the story, you won’t find out what you need to know in order to prevent your kids exposure to dangerous toxins.

On top of that, how about using the microwave for cooking? Even worst, how about using the microwave to cook something inside a plastic container? How about birthday parties where they give kids refined sugar, hydrogenated oils, colorants, emulsifiers and conservatives?

As we said at the beginning of the article, raising kids green is definitely not easy. We are exposed to thousands of toxins on a daily basis, and most of them are not in the radar of peoples’ minds because of the lack of information.
